
My summer weekends growing up in the Yukon were spent living in a tent or cruising the coast of Alaska with my family in our live-aboard boat. We spent most days outside, winter, summer, rain or shine, which introduced me to a lifestyle and comfort in outdoor environments. I've been extremely fortunate to put that comfort and skills acquired to work through Frontier Steelhead Experience and Bulkley Basecamp.
The first steelhead I ever encountered was the most epic “coho” battle of my life. It was a beautiful and large mid-August fish on the Bulkley River in Smithers BC, which was and is currently my backyard playground. That creature single-handedly introduced me to the world of fly fishing, the deep dark rabbit hole of spey casting, and the beauty of the swung fly.
I’ve been fortunate to work for nearly a decade with Derek Botchford and his crew at Frontier Steelhead Experience, and the programs he’s offered throughout the summer exploring the BC coast for Chinook Salmon. I currently feel most at home, living in a tent of course, at Bulkley Basecamp, where I’m so fortunate to fish and boat some of the most spectacular water the Bulkley River has to offer. My fishing style is generally unconventional, but with a get it done or don’t do it at all attitude. Black, blue, or pink are the only flies that matter, change my mind…
